Welcome To AMANZIMTOTI
KZN Athletics will play host to the 2012 edition of the SA Cross-Country Championships. It is with great pleasure and excitement that we welcome each and every athlete from across our beautiful country to the east coast of Kwa-Zulu Natal. The event will be staged at the Hutchisonpark sportsfields in Amanzimtoti. National events are not new to the area as it hosted an SA Championship in the 1980's and the SA cross-country trials in 1997.
Amanzimtoti is situated +-30km south of Durban just of the N2 freeway. It is 65km's from the King Shaka airport in La Mercy. Amanzimtoti is a very popular holiday destination with it's visitor friendly beaches the main attraction. You will find many accomodation venues which includes self-catering entities, many bed & breakfast stopovers, a hotel etc. Amanzimtoti has a major shopping centre which caters for many national retail outlets, restaurants, cinemas, ice-rink and lots more.
Amanzimtoti is also in close proximity of a popular deepsea-diving site known as the Aliwal Shoal. Here you can explore old shipwrecks and swim amongst various shark species! During June there is a lot of excitement along the coast when the annual sardine run comes past. Also known as the "biggest shoal on earth", it creates a buzz amongst locals and visitors alike.
For more information about amanzimtoti and what it can offer to a visitor, you can contact the local tourism body, known as Sapphire Coast Tourism. Contact details: 031 903 7498 or website: www.sapphirecoasttourism.co.za
